Hook, line, sinker

Home to some of the best salmon and halibut fishing in North America and trophy catches, the angling tradition in Renfrew stretches way, way back. Thirty-pound spring salmon are common in these parts and the occasional “barn door” (halibut to 200 pounds) pitches up. Near the Swiftsure Bank where the Juan de Fuca Strait opens to the Pacific Ocean, boats often limit out early.

West Coast waters are fertile ground for ling cod, red snapper, and crab. Freshwater salmon and steelhead (catch and release) can be found in the San Juan River, Gordon River and Harris Creek. Local know-how is second to none. For new and seasoned anglers, a charter is the highlight of a visit.
