Surfing is the stuff of legend on Vancouver Island’s wild West Coast. Here, it’s an all-season affair; we’re not afraid of a little cold water. Port Renfrew’s two river mouths ― the San Juan and the Gordon River ― are drop-in havens northwest of town. The Gordon is where you’ll find local surfers ripping it up. Jordan River and Sombrio Beach are storied West Coast Road surf spots. If more leisurely exploration is your thing, try stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) on the San Juan River. You’ll spot wildlife from this vantage you won’t see another way.
